Hasta hoy no encontré a nadie que me diga qué le gusta, interesa o llama la atención de la obra de Tracey Emin. Nada que no sea lo que dicen los connaiseurs.
Todavía menos sobre los videos que forman parte de la exposición, curada por Philip Larrat-Smith, que estará hasta el 25 de febrero de este año en la sala del 1° piso del Malba.

Todo lo que escucho y leo da por sentado que es una gran artista británica contemporánea, por sus premios, ¿por lo que tematiza?, ¿por los dispositivos que utiliza..? Y por qué es presentada solamente como una artista visual y no también audiovisual (o incluso una artista "narrativa")?
Lo que más me intriga es la denominación "artista contemporánea", como si fuera una suerte de galardón o distinción especial...¿es sólo una referencia epocal o se trata de un rasgo estilístico?
¿Será parte del estilo llamado contemporáneo cierta irónica autorreferencialidad, el interés en los temas tabú de nuestra sociedad, la utilización de dispositivos técnicos acordes con los avances tecnológicos más recientes?
¿Y en qué sentido estos recursos generan tal distancia de aquellos adquiridos por la llamada modernidad que hace necesaria una nueva denominación?

Tracey Emin, How it feels?
Until now no one has told me what he/she likes / sees as interesting or what calls his/her attention to the work of Tracey Emin. Nothing but what connaiseurs say about it.
I've heard even less about the videos that are part of this exhibition, curated by Philip Larrat-Smith, that will last until February 25th this year on Malba's 1st floor.
All I hear and read assumes that she's a great contemporary British artist. Is it because of her awards, because the issues she thematizes? Is it because she uses some contemporary electronic devices ..? And why is she presented only as a visual artist and not also as an audiovisual or even a "narrative" artist?
What intrigues me most is the term "contemporary artist", as if it were a sort of award or a rare distinction ... is it only an epochal reference or it is a stylistic feature?
Can we recognize this so-called Contemporary style on some ironic self-referentiality, the interest in the taboo subjects in our society, the use of technical equipment in line with the latest technological developments?
And in what sense these resources and topics have generated a distance from those used by the so-called Modernity that turns the latter necessarily into a new term: Contemporary?
